31 Days of Halloween – Day 4
Hallowtober Day #4
Celebrate Oktoberfest! It’s always fun to dress up like a beer maiden whilst partaking in some good ol’ fashioned German fun! I’m not much of a beer girl, but if you’re anything like me, there’s always other adult beverages to have at these festivals. And the food is great too. Mmmmm, pretzels, bratwurst and apple strudel, oh my! And the music … lets just say the traditional German songs will have you getting down in a jig in no time!

31 Days of Halloween – Day 3
Hallowtober Day #3
If you’re lucky enough to dwell in the mid-West, or the East Coast, go for a drive to check out the fall colors… do this throughout the month because the later you get into October usually the better the color depending on where you live. But if you’re anything like me I love to take in all of the different stages. It’s like the excitement grows a little bit every day! It only lasts for such a short amount of time that you gotta enjoy it while its here! Happy color hunting!

Jen

31 Days of Halloween – Day 2
Hallowtober Day #2:
I don’t know about you, but I simply cannot wait any longer! When the days start growing shorter and there’s a crispness in the air (hard to detect in LA, but there is a subtle change) I just have to indulge in a pumpkin latte… okay, quite a few to be honest but who’s counting. Go to your favorite local coffee house and slowly savor this sweet and cinnamon-y latte of the season. Some places even have chai pumpkin lattes! Make it ‘dirty’ with a shot of espresso… mmmm… (what will they think of next??)

31 Days of Halloween – Day 1
Halloween always has been, and always will be my very favorite holiday. Growing up in the mid-west certainly helped sparked the magic and imagination of the season. With the smell of crisp burning leaves, apple orchards, and woodsy chilly nights in the air, it’s the time of year I feel most alive.
My Mom would always make this time of year extra special for my brother, sister and I. We would help decorate the house with fun whimsical Halloweeny things… Glowing grins from jack-o-lanterns, old fashioned ghosts holding pumpkins that would light up the spookiest of nights, and iconic witches on their broom sticks with their black cats in tow, gliding past a full harvest moon… Visits to pumpkin patches to pick the pumpkin that we deemed best for carving our jack-o-lanterns… Hoping to catch a glimpse of a witch by the full moon’s light… And on Halloween night my Mom would always make a big pot of the yummiest chili to warm our bellies before going trick-or-treating with the other ghouls and goblins. Our Halloween was always a whimsical, vintage style Halloween. We were never into the scary gory version of the holiday. While there’s nothing wrong with that, it just wasn’t the way we celebrated. And the wonderful thing is thyat through the years all of us have the exact same love of the holiday. We’ll usually start calling each other excitedly starting in August saying, “guess what’ll be here soon?!? Halloween!!!”.
So with that, I would like to present to you… the 31 Days of Halloween!! I shall call it Hallowtober and it will be my tribute to Halloween and October. I like to celebrate the holiday and the season each day this month because celebrating just one day on Halloween is just simply NOT enough! My posts during this time will be all about the fun things, from small to big, that you can do to make the most of this glorious time of year.
Without further ado… I want to get you into the spirit of things with one of my favorite animated Disney shorts from 1929… Silly Symphony: The Skeleton Dance. This is pretty impressive given back then they did all of the animation by hand. Seriously spooky… and awesome!

Hello All!
Hello all! Since we are just getting to know each other I’d like to get you familiar with what I’ll be bringing to you on the regular right here at moonbirdz.com. It’s kind of like our first date, so I hope we’re all dressed to impress! As I mentioned in my bio, I like to bring excitement, joy and happiness into the everyday. And I figure, what better way to do that than to put a smile on the faces of my readers. Moonbirdz will contain inspiration of all kinds… from my own art and the process I go through in creating it, some very special art for sale, favorite music, books, food, photos, general feel goodness, occasional silliness and sage advice from someone who’s endured some mucky muck and made it thru to the other side… with a sprinkling of fairy glitter thrown in for good measure of course. Think of this site as the good friend you can trust to brighten your day. We’re all in this together, and as far as we know this is the only life we’ve got, so why not smile through it!
I’m really happy that you’re here, and I’m looking forward to sharing some enchanting inspiration!
xoxo,
Jen
